Our Story
Inspired by a Mother's Love
Sunari was founded on a simple but powerful belief — that every person deserves to age with dignity, comfort, and the warmth of genuine compassion.
Inspired by a Mother's Life of Caring
Our Beginning
Sunari began long before we ever opened our doors. It began with our mother, Billy.
Caring for others was woven throughout Billy's life. As a registered nurse, she worked in the emergency room and neonatal care, where compassion, patience, and a calm presence mattered during some of life's most vulnerable moments.
But Billy's commitment to helping others extended far beyond her work as a nurse. She was a co-founder of a church, helping build a community centered on faith, service, and supporting others. She also founded a nonprofit dedicated to helping women affected by domestic violence, providing support during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
Her desire to serve others also reached beyond her own community. Billy volunteered her time helping underprivileged women in Asia, sharing her experience and compassion with women who might not otherwise have had access to the support they needed.
Later in life, Billy worked as a caregiver, supporting people in their own homes. Through every chapter of her life, she showed us that meaningful care isn't only about what you do for someone — it's also about how you make them feel: respected, comfortable, heard, and never alone.
We didn't know it at the time, but the values Billy lived by every day would eventually become the foundation of Sunari.
Then Our Family Needed Care
In 2017, our lives began to change.
Billy became ill and began experiencing the early stages of Alzheimer's disease. She was increasingly in and out of the hospital, and everyday activities that had once been simple became more difficult.
The woman who had spent so much of her life caring for other people now needed someone to care for her.
As her son, I wanted to be there for everything she needed. But I discovered something that thousands of families experience every day: love doesn't always mean you can do everything alone.
I couldn't always provide the day-to-day assistance she needed while managing all of life's other responsibilities. And finding someone else to help wasn't simply a matter of finding a caregiver. This was my mother. I needed someone I could trust with her. Someone who would be patient when she became confused. Someone who would protect her dignity. Someone who would see the person she had always been — not simply the challenges she was now facing.
That experience changed the way I understood caregiving.
From Our Family to Yours
In 2020, that experience became Sunari.
Sunari was created in Billy's honor and built around the values she demonstrated throughout her life: compassion, dignity, patience, service, and caring for people when they need you most.
Today, when a family contacts Sunari, we understand that they aren't simply looking for someone to prepare a meal, provide companionship, help with personal care, or assist with everyday activities. They're trusting someone with a person they love.
We've been on that side of the conversation. We've experienced the worry. We've asked the same questions. And that's why we want every person we serve to receive the kind of respect, patience, and compassion we wanted for Billy.
Billy's Legacy Lives On
Billy spent her life caring for others.
Sunari is our way of carrying that legacy forward.
Every helping hand. Every conversation. Every mealtime made a little easier. Every moment of companionship. Every time we help someone remain comfortable and dignified in their own home — we remember why this company began.
We don't just provide care. We honor a legacy of love.
"We don't just provide care. We honor a legacy of love."
